proctor
An officer of the ecclesiastical court corresponding to an attorney at law in the courts of the common law. See 3 Bl Comm 25. One licensed to practice admiralty law. One who stands in the relationship to a litigant in admiralty as the attorney of a party in an ordinary civil action. Jackson v Ore Navigation Corp. (DC Md) 159 F Supp 935. One, familiar to generations of law students, who supervises examinations. See divorce proctor.
