- The mental quality of discernment. An interpretation. Agreement. "Understood" is synonymous with the word agreed". Phoenix Iron & Steel Co. v Wilkoff Co. (CA6 Ohio) 253 F 165, 1 ALR 1497. "The words 'understood' and ‘agreed' may be used synonymously." Mount v Montgomery County, 168 Ind 661, 80 NE 629. While, in a sense, the word may be said to involve a conclusion, it is an ambiguous word, and is sometimes used as synonymous with the word " agreement." While a witness should not be asked what "understanding" was arrived at, if such testimony is admitted without objection, or cross-examination, it should go to the jury with a view to ascertaining what was meant by the word. Sykes v City Sav. Bank, 115 Mich 321.
