duration of war

In a legal sense the period continuing to and terminating at the time of a formal proclamation of peace by competent authorities; in common usage by laymen, the period of time terminating on the cessation of actual hostilities. When such term is used in a contract the meaning to be attributed is one of intent of the parties to be determined upon the consideration of the instrument itself and evidence produced as to the circumstances surrounding its execution and the purposes which the party sought to accomplish.
