head of stream

In common parlance, the source of a stream, whether it be a spring, a lake, or a swamp. Technically, the highest point on a stream which furnishes a continuous stream, not necessarily the longest fork or sprong. Uhl v Reynolds, 23 Ky LR 759, 64 SW 498.
