interim ordinance

A zoning ordinance intended to preserve the status quo of a particular section or sections of the municipality pending the adoption of permanent zoning regulations, the purpose of the ordinance being to prevent the evasion of a comprehensive zoning plan in prospect by entering upon a course of construction during the time that it takes to work out the details of and enact a complete zoning plan. 58 Am J1st Zon § 137.
