redirect examination

The examination of a witness by the party who called him, after the cross-examination of the witness by the other party, for the purpose of having the witness explain his testimony on cross-examination, his expressions, and motives in using them, the scope of the examination to be confined as a general rule to matters referred to in the cross-examination. 58 Am J1st Witn § 562.
