standard of care

The standard according to which negligence in a particular situation is determined. The care which an ordinary prudent person would exercise under like circumstances. The supposititious course of an ordinary prudent and careful person under the same circumstances. 38 Am J1st Negl § 30. See the ordinary prudent man.
